4 For The Weekend

Off to Manchester and Leeds for a weekend up north. It makes a change for me to be going north not south to London for a weekend, and it's been too long since i did. It'll be good to get out the black hole that is COV for a few days. Before i go here is my 4 for the Weekend.

A track i missed off Benga's phase one EP which was relesed the other month. It came to my attention thanks to the Magnetic Man essential mix on Radio One last Weekend. As I've said before Magnetic man are running things right now. I did want to post their track with Ms Dynamite called 'Fire' but it's been removed from youtube already. Anyway this track is has plenty of house vibes, big rolling 4/4 beats. I've noticed dubstep seems to be going this way.

Next up is this retro sounding, whinny indie track from 'Best Coast'. Never heard of them before but Wikipedia tells me they are "an American indie pop trio based in Los Angeles, California, and is often categorized under the subgenres of garage rock, surf pop, and lo-fi" Loving this

Discovered the new Sleigh Bells album this week. It's kind of like a fresh take on R&B and HipHop but the thing i like the most about it is how bass heavy it is. They're playing a free show at The Old Blue Last next weekend, anyone wanna go with me??? This is the first single from the Album.

And last up the new track from Eminem ft Rihanna. Such an anthem. Here's him performing it live at T-In The Park a couple of weeks ago. I really want to see Eminem live at some point.. like SOON!!!

Summer House Mix

Yet another mix from me. Really getting back into DJing actually. I've only recently started doing it again after about almost a years break.

When i was living in Leicester i couldn't be bothered to do mixes because i had my own weekly radio show, so why make them??? But now i don't have that luxury so i guess this is one of the few ways i can be creative.

I decided to just do a straight up house mix today. The two previous mixes I posted on the blog mainly consisted of more Dubstep, Funky and Urban House styles. This time i've gone deep.

Enjoy..

Top 5 Most Hated Bands

Here is a list of my top 5 most hated current bands / artists. If it was of all time it would be full of awful britpop bands, but thankfully they've long crawled off to die, aside from their obligatory weekly plays at indie nights up and down the country... bore off and play friendly fires already!

1. Mumford & Sons

Banjos have no place in the charts. EVER. That said i hate the people who like them more than i hate the band, I can forgive the band for being rednecks. I can't forgive the try hards who make up their fan base. They need to be battered with a synthesizer

2. Kasabian
This band is the epitome of chav-indie and represent everything i hate about the genre. I truly feel the only people who get enjoyment from this band are "lads" who work mundane jobs in former industrial cities (oh heyyy Cov) and like to go out and get wasted on a saturday night in their Fred Perry polo neck and feel like their living the life of a 1960's mod. YOU MAKE MY SOUL ACHE!!!

3. Jamie T
SEE ABOVE!!!

4. One Night Only
The members of the band just come across as so arrogant when they really have no reason to be with a catalogue of mediocre indie tracks to their name. AND WHY THE FUCK IS HE A MODLE FOR BURBERRY???? He's so average looking it's painful, and his relationship with that ugly posh bitch out of Harry Potter is simply a masquerade for the fact he's trying to be all Pete Docherty and have a model girlfriend, i hope he gives her drugs too so i can take delight in her downfall (one line should be enough.)

5. The Xx
LOL JK... I rim them.

20 Min Mix

This was the extent of my productivity today.

4 For The Weeekend

New song from the Count and Sinden, teaming up with The Mystery Jets. Big summer vibes on this one. Check the Funky remix from C.R.S.T. on my latest mix (in the first blog post) Apparently Sinden used to live 'two doors down' from the Mystery Jets. Well thats what i heard them say in an interview explaining how it came about, you buying it??

Skream's new album drops on August 9th. Seems like its been coming for ages. This is the epic new video for the first track to be taken from the forthcoming album. If i'm honest i'm not a massive fan of the track but the video is next level. Also make sure you cop Skream's Freeizms. 3 zip files full of tracks thats he's given away free via twitter over the past month or so to get hype around the album release.

I really wasn't that impressed by the first taster of the new album that Klaxons put out in the form of 'flashover'. To me it sounded like a re-hash of 'magic' from the first album. However it seems they've stepped up their game with their new single 'echoes' and despite wanting it hate it, it really does have a very catchy chorus hook that does stay in my head for hours... #NeWRaVE4LyFeYo

This track needs to be number one. Benga has teamed up with Katy B to provide some vocals for his track 'man on a mission' and take Dubstep to a new more mainstream level, but i don't even care. It's catchy as hell and is providing a nice soundtrack to my summer. Look out for a Katy B track on the forthcoming Magnetic Man album.

EDIT: Here is that Katy B / Magnetic Man track. IT'S AMAZING!!!!!!!

Being An Internet G

Unlike hip hop there just isn't enough beefs in electronic music, however this could be about to change thanks in part to dubstep producer Zomby.

The producer who gained a reputation for missing gigs and causing trouble on internet forums has been at it again, this time causing drama with UK Funky don Roska.

I'm not quite sure how the drama went down but Roska posted a series of tweets attacking Zomby for not showing up at gigs. Then things got weird, here's my personal favorite tweet:

"
Zomby is 30+ and he's telling me he's gonna come to my yard and shoot me on aim. He offer is still open I'll give u my address pussy"

HAHAHAHAHAHA

I don't think you're ever to old to be an internet gangsta.

So who would you want to win in a fight between Roska and Zomby??? Roska seems to be the nice guy and he does have some good tunes. But for me i have to be on the side of Zomby. I find his swagger appealing and his cocky attitude almost endearing. Also i think Zomby is the better producer of the two. I think his productions tend to be more forward thinking and experimental than Roska's. Zomby really is pushing boundaries so thats what swings it for me. Soz Roska.

New Shoes

I was so excited when woke up this morning to find this massive box waiting downstairs for me. The cheap Dr Martens i got off ebay on saturday for £40 had arrived.

I just asked my mum what she thought of me in them (modeling them in a grey vest and ripped denim short shorts) her responce was: "if only you could see yourself in the eyes of a normal person." take that as a thumbs up from chezza gordo then!

Not looking forward to having my feet ripped apart while i break them in. Whats the best way to do this? If i wear them to town will i be wanting to cut my own feet off as a pain relief by the time i get home?

Anywayz in other news my itunes has been taken over by the new Mystery Jets album. It's up their with Foals and Delphic as one of my favorites this year. It's so so good, maybe even better than their debut? Favorite tracks? It's too late, Serotonin, Lady Grey, the opener Alice Springs:

This Is Cocaine Speaking.

Ok so this is a picture of me and this is my new blog. I'm going to be posting about music, fashion and my life in general, in order to make it seem more exciting than it really is.

To celebrate the new blog I spent the afternoon making a new mix for y'all to enjoy. It starts with an old house track from 1985. I'm a fan of the spoken opening lyrics "This Is Cocaine Speaking, I can make you do anything for me" . The last 10 minuets of the mix turns into a bit of a gay disco but I'm making no apologies for that. Hope you enjoy the mix, I'll be posting a few more no doubt provided this blog lasts longer than my last one.
